S925 Sterling Silver Guide
“S925” or “925” is commonly used to identify sterling silver. When genuine, it indicates an alloy containing 92.5% silver, with the remaining 7.5% made from other metals to improve strength and durability.

Why sterling silver is an alloy
Pure silver is relatively soft for everyday jewelry. Combining it with a small amount of other metal creates a more practical material while retaining a high silver content.
Does sterling silver tarnish?
Yes. Genuine sterling silver can naturally darken or tarnish as it reacts with sulfur compounds, moisture, cosmetics and environmental exposure. Tarnish does not automatically mean a piece is fake or damaged, and it can often be reduced with appropriate cleaning.
What about plating?
Some sterling-silver pieces can also have a surface finish or plating, such as rhodium or gold-tone plating. That finish can change how a piece looks and how it should be cared for. Always follow the material and care details for the exact item.
